Biotangents secure funding to develop next generation mastitis testing

This is part of the company's development of an in-clinic and on-farm diagnostic for mastitis and this research will differentiate between key mastitis-causing pathogens, meeting a critical industry-led need.

Mastitis is an inflammation of the mammary gland that is predominantly caused by a bacterial infection and is the most common and costly disease affecting the dairy industry. Because it can cause significant financial losses and adversely impact animal welfare, farmers and herd managers need quick diagnostic results so they can take fast and appropriate action.

In this project, researchers from the Roslin Institute will produce gene expression data for mastitis-causing pathogens and identify the most prevalent causes of mastitis in the UK, and also globally to meet our future international sales. This data will be used by our multi-disciplinary team, to develop the next generation of mastitis diagnostics.
