Edinburgh Science - Call for Ideas to Midlothian
Published: 7 December 2020
Edinburgh Science is interested in contributions from Midlothian Science Zone for outdoor programmes and experiences including walks, tours, trails, exhibitions and installations as well as online events for the 2021 Festival. Deadline end January 2021.
Given the location of Midlothian Science Zone with its Pentlands backdrop and the parkland setting of our Science Parks, there is potential to engage in the Edinburgh Science 2021 outdoor programme as well as online events.
Edinburgh Science has launched a 'Call for Ideas' and is open to suggestions from those working across the sciences with events for all ages, to thought-provoking discussions, interactive events, exhibitions and workshops that bring science to life.
The Festival theme is One World and 2021 is a year that celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first draft of the human genome, the 50th year since the invention of email and the floppy disc, the inception of the World food programme and the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s ground-breaking trip into space.
Edinburgh Science 2021 will run from 26th June to 11th July and will explore how we are all connected… to each other, to Planet Earth and to the wider Universe therefore this is an ideal theme for Midlothian to showcase efforts in the zone to address One Health challenges.
Photography Exhibition
In addition to an events programme, a large-scale, outdoor Photography Exhibition will again take place in a prominent position in Edinburgh (last year this was along Portobello Prom).
Edinburgh Science is looking for contributions of visually appealing and thought-provoking images, to be submitted under the following themes:
- Food and Sustainability
The importance of food, food sustainability and environmental issues surrounding food production. - Human Connection to Nature
The importance of the natural world to human health and happiness, and the effects of the climate crisis on nature.
Midlothian Science Zone can collate images which you think would be suitable and would like to submit for display at the Exhibition. High resolution images are required of large print quality and 5906 x 3545 pixels.
We encourage Midlothian Science Zone tenant companies, scientists, researchers and local business to participate and would welcome the opportunity to explore any exciting or innovative ideas you may have and propose these under the Midlothian Science Zone banner.
