Moredun and RSABI to support charity work with Livestock Keepers book

Published: 29 November 2022

The beautiful Livestock Keepers coffee table book is a result of a Talking Science project undertaken by Lee Innes and Beth Wells from Moredun. Travelling to remote, rural areas of Scotland, they visited farm businesses that had livestock as central to their work with the people involved showing remarkable energy and enthusiasm for diversification and playing a key role in supporting rural populations and economies.

With a foreword from HRH The Princess Royal and stunning images by Scottish photographer Kevin McCollum, the book is a celebration of livestock and the people that keep them in remote rural areas of Scotland. Designed by Moredun’s Hazel Simm, the images and text, taken directly from conversations with the Livestock Keepers, depict the strong bond between farmers and their animals.

The proceeds from sales of the book are to go to support the charitable work of the Moredun Foundation and RSABI to provide support for farmers and the health and welfare of their livestock. RSABI provides practical, emotional and financial support to all people involved in the Scottish Agricultural industry.

“We are delighted to have completed this very special book, inspired by some of the wonderful people we met during a science engagement project highlighting the key role of livestock in supporting a diverse range of thriving rural businesses.

"Working together with Scottish photographer Kevin McCollum was very inspiring and he has produced some remarkable images that really bring the stories of our Livestock Keepers to life. We are very excited to be teaming up with RSABI to enable the proceeds from this book to go towards supporting farmers and I do hope that people enjoy the book.”

David Leggat, Chair of RSABI, extended sincere thanks to the Moredun team for a wonderful publication and for choosing RSABI to benefit from part of the proceeds of the sale of the book.

“This is a wonderful publication which beautifully captures the spirit of stockmen and women in Scotland. One of the greatest strengths of agriculture in Scotland is the passion of the people who devote their lives to looking after livestock, and this commitment shines through in the pages of this stunning publication.”

David Leggat, Chair of RSABI
