New Locate in Midlothian website launched

Published: 29 June 2020

If you’re looking to start a new business venture, grow your existing company, relocate with your family or simply want to visit the area, the newly launched Locate in Midlothian website gives you all the tools, support and information you need.

Focused on Scotland’s fastest growing region, Locate in Midlothian showcases all that the area has to offer. Its aim is to put Midlothian on the map, harnessing inward investment and promoting the area as a “great, green place to grow”.

The website provides a one-stop-shop for information and advice on starting up or growing a business, moving to Midlothian, and bringing up a family here. It also has a focus on tourism, with visitors being encouraged to enjoy the area’s numerous attractions, stunning landscape, fascinating history and heritage, and quality food and drink.

The new site has been launched as part of Midlothian’s Economic Growth Strategy, which incorporates ambitious plans to support economic renewal by protecting jobs, preserving business and tackling the adverse economic impact of COVID-19. Support from a team of skilled business consultants is also available, with expert advice on how to invest, develop and locate a business in Midlothian.

“Locate in Midlothian is central to the work we are doing to support businesses to recover from the current crisis and to help boost the local economy,” explained Midlothian Council Leader, Councillor Derek Milligan. “A key aim is to encourage start-ups and existing businesses from outwith the area to relocate to Midlothian – with all that it has to offer – to help them develop and grow.

“The site showcases the key sectors working in Midlothian – agriculture, tourism, small and medium-sized enterprises, food and drink, life sciences, data and digital, and business and enterprise. It also sets out the development opportunities available here, with our thriving business community, skills and training opportunities, and support packages providing a solid base for anyone wanting to start, develop and grow a business,” added Councillor Milligan.

“Crucially, we want to encourage businesses to become more energy efficient. This is why the new site will also promote the Midlothian Carbon Charter – supporting businesses and signposting them to the information, expert advice and funding available to support the green economy.”

“The new Locate in Midlothian website is a very timely initiative from Midlothian Council aimed squarely at highlighting the region’s rich offer as a place to start, grow or locate a business. The council has been quick off the mark in getting its economic recovery strategy into place and we would urge any business looking for help to get in touch with the Business Gateway Midlothian team to find out what’s on offer.”

Garry Clark, Development Manager for the Federation of Small Businesses in Midlothian

“NFU Scotland is delighted that Midlothian Council is taking such a proactive approach to supporting local business and developing and growing a future proof economy. Agriculture plays a significant part in the rural economy and wider community it supports. The implementation of this Economic Growth Strategy post Covid-19 can only be a positive for Midlothian.”
