Roslin Innovation Centre already ‘open’ for business

Published: 7 January 2016

A ‘pop-up incubator’ has been located within the Sir Alexander Robertson Building on the Easter Bush Campus with completion of the Roslin Innovation Centre expected in the summer of 2017.

The construction of the new development at the Easter Bush Campus is now rising over the hoardings. After an eight-week delay to protect resident oyster catchers who chose to nest on the site, building works are making good progress with completion expected in the summer of 2017.

A Roslin Innovation Centre Development Board has been established and tenant prospecting has started in earnest, with a lot of interest already being generated both at home and abroad.

The Roslin Innovation Centre will be the new business location of choice for companies undertaking strategic, commercial and collaborative research in the Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Agri-Tech and One Health industries.

The team look forward to welcoming startups, spin outs and spin ins (‘incubate’ tenants) as well as new and existing strategic partners (‘project’ tenants) and more established companies (‘anchor’ tenants) to the Easter Bush Campus.

Until the new Roslin Innovation Centre is completed, a ‘pop-up incubator’ has located within the Sir Alexander Robertson Building and already hosts Greengage Lighting Ltd, which has recently relocated its R&D operations from London, and the Roslin Institute’s latest spin out company Kajeka Ltd.

These companies will be the first to occupy the Roslin Innovation Centre which will provide 41,000 square feet of flexible laboratory and office space available for let when construction is completed.

Tenants as well as existing staff and students will also benefit from direct access to the additional amenities and services that the building will provide; these include a new gym, cycle changing and showers, a shop and a student services centre. Together with a Science Outreach Centre for public engagement, the Roslin Innovation Centre will be at the epicentre of a co-creating community at the Easter Bush Campus.
