SRUC at the 2017 Royal Highland Show

Earlier this year, the SRUC launched their new strategic vision, describing how they will increase reach and impact here in Scotland, across the UK and around the world.

SRUC will be demonstrating some of their most innovative work around the key themes set out in the strategy:

• Integration: find out how SRUC’s experts support food & drink production and supply in Scotland and taste the wares of some of the SRUC alumni now working in the industry.
• Innovation for Impact: see how SRUC is supporting the development of cutting edge farming technology, including a new auto-backfat scanner and drones.
• Industry-facing: try out your skills on the forest harvester training simulator and learn about how SRUC can open the doors to an exciting career in this important sector.
• International: visit a Malawian farm to understand the challenges faced by local farmers, how they compare with Scottish farming, and the ways in which SRUC is involved in tackling them.
• Inspiring: discover the latest knowledge in animal welfare research and give your views on the issue of livestock welfare.

Following on from the success of last year, one of the key note events on the SRUC stand will be the Women in Agriculture event.

The event will see the Scottish Government release the results of their year long Women in Agriculture survey and will see a number of keynote speakers including:

• Marion MacCormick (Buying Director at ALDI stores)
• Claire Simonetta (SRUC student and Farmers Weekly “National Student of the Year 2016”)
• Katrina Barclay (RHET Education Manager)
• Romy Jackson (Rural Surveyor at Savills)

The event has been hugely popular and all tickets were allocated within two days of the event going live.

Vets, consultants, researchers and educators will be at the SRUC Pavilion on 7th Avenue, next to the show ring, with advice and information. Topics include courses and careers, farm management and animal health.

The Royal highland Show is running at Ingliston Showground from 22 - 25 June.
