In this role with the SSAC, Prof Powell will advise the Scottish Government on science-based strategy, policy and priorities to support economic growth, tackle inequality, and raise the quality of life in Scotland.

The members of the SSAC are respected senior figures drawn from across the science, business and academic communities. Prof Powell will take up the post on 1 January 2019. The appointment will last three years.
The SSAC provides independent advice, through its Chair, to the Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) for Scotland, to inform policy development and delivery across all areas of the Scottish Government’s work.
