MSZ Business Forum introduction to Business Leader Groups

Midlothian Science Zone Business Forum attendees were introduced to the services and benefits of Business Leader Groups and a selection of business diagnostic tools, by accredited facilitators and business coaches from Henderson Loggie - Business Growth Solutions.

Midlothian businesses joined the first Business Forum of 2022 on Tuesday 15th February, to learn about the advantages of being a member of Business Leader Group from guest speakers, David Smith and Jacqueline Watson.

Being a Business Leader can at times be a lonely a place and this Group helps provide focus and support, which in turn helps staff and clients reach their full potential. This successful blended programme is a mix of advisory support, face-to-face training (online), networking with peers to compare business experiences and access to online tools.

The Group includes a variety of business types and sizes from individuals, SMEs to large organisations, and offers a chance to step back and look at how you, as a leader, currently work and help to identify and resolve strategy shifts required.

In their Annual Business Insights report, leaders described themselves as “tired but optimistic for a strong 2022”. This year brings new challenges and requires business leaders to reskill and upskill to harness business confidence and strategies, embracing a more flexible workplace and working habits which have emerged as a result of two years of operating during a pandemic and the restrictions operational changes this imposed for businesses.

The themes identified in the report are used as topics within the training programme so are both current and relevant:

  • Time management

  • Embracing a flexible workforce post pandemic

  • New work/life balance habits.

  • Investment in leadership & coaching capabilities

  • Creating a ‘thriving’ strategy and vision for 2022

  • What makes profitability

During the Forum we learnt about the issues affecting businesses at the end of 2021 and into 2022 as well as the 'habit of procrastination' - triggered by stress - and which many of us can relate to! We were shown a 3-minute extract from a TED talk by Mel Robbins which gave a suggestion as to how to break this habit, applying a new way of working by the simple action of counting to five to switch focus and help you make a start.
