Almac Group announce £3.5m expansion of peptide and protein technology services
The global contract development and manufacturing organisation, announce the relocation of their peptide custom synthesis operations from their existing Elvingston facility to a custom designed, 7,000ft wing of the Fleming Building at the vibrant Edinburgh Technopole.
The move sees the relocation of the front end of the Almac Group’s Peptide and Protein Technology department who provide expert peptide custom synthesis and process development services for the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors globally. As existing clinical programmes approach commercialisation, and as preclinical demand increases for Almac’s peptide specialist services, the move ensures Almac is ideally placed to bring new products and services to the market.
Almac’s recently announced strategic alliance with TTP Labtech in the area of Fluorescence Lifetime technology is illustrative of the increasing demands for these specialist services and the move offers ample expansion opportunity to support Almac’s plans to double their workforce in Scotland within the next three years.
Edinburgh Technopole, which is a member of the Edinburgh Science Triangle, is a unique business park located less than 20 minutes from Edinburgh airport offering flexible solutions to dynamic companies and has a thriving on-site scientific community. Neighbouring science campuses mean Almac will be at the centre of an established life sciences hub providing access to a wealth of expertise and knowledge.
The move, supported by £450,000 investment from Scottish Enterprise, represents a £3.5 million investment in bespoke laboratories, offices and equipment. The investment signifies Almac’s growing commitment to serving clients with high quality products and services based around peptide technology.
